Summary

The Reformation is a small online community based in the UK, with several international members. As a community we organise several online projects and events such as our yearly charity streams, story-driven Minecraft servers, and a seemingly infinite number of small events hosted from our Discord server. The Reformation community was founded upon the base of a Terraria mod called Havoc. Over time, the community adopted the name "Reformation" from the name of our Discord servers, which was used to fuel the fire of our community.

How did Reformation come about?

Originally, we were a small group of developers working on a Terraria mod by the name of Havoc, this was a small project that each of us contributed to as a hobby when we had the time, as it happened, this was during the 2020 Lockdown so we all had a lot of that free time to sink into this project. During the development of this mod we used the Havoc Development Server as a way to plan and communicate what we were doing to further the progress on the mod, but soon it became clear that we should have a community server to host the growing community of friends who were interested in following the progress of this mod. This server rapidly became a more active environment than the development server, gaining traction from some people who weren't even interested in the mod, but just wanted to join to talk to the people there.

From this, FineminePlays had the idea to host a Minecraft Realm for those who were interested in playing Minecraft, HavocCraft Realms. Along with this Minecraft server, a Discord server was created to keep the community server from being flooded with conversations not relevant to the Terraria mod, this server was called HavocCraft, again, this server gained traction quickly, attracting friends of many of the Havoc members to join the server for the Minecraft server or just to participate in the voice calls that happened here almost all day every day throughout the 2020 pandemic. This lasted for a long time, with several Minecraft servers coming and going through this server, switching to being hosted by Tchrin after HavocCraft Realms for cost and performance reasons.

After some time, some debates between users about how to moderate content on the server became arguments, which caused the server to split into two, HavocCraft (still owned by Finemine) and Elastic Reformation, ran by [[Lordimass]. This server was named as such because it was supposed to 'reform' the community and change rules that Lordimass was not happy with, this was successfully achieved, and he was able to convince most if not all of the HavocCraft members to move to Elastic Reformation, perhaps in part due to the fact that his father, Tchrin was the one running the Minecraft server at the time so it made the most sense to follow that. It was from here that the name 'Reformation' came about, the 'Elastic' part of the name being a play on words from 'Elastic Deformation', since Lordimass had recently had a lesson about elasticity in a physics class.

Projects

Over time the community has picked up several projects, some of which are ongoing and many of which have been abandoned due to interests moving on to new things. These are not necessarily things that we aim to "finish", rather, they are experiments and learning experiences for us to dip our toes into many different hobbies and skills to find out what we're interested in doing. Below is a list of these projects in chronological starting order:
